My First Churrascaria (Brazilian Steak House)
If you’re a vegetarian, you can skip this post because I’m about to take my fellow meat eaters on a carnivorous trek deep into the Brazilian steak house, Porcão.
An upscale all you can eat buffet, Porcão is close to the Sugar Loaf Mountains and directly on the water. The ambiance is that of a fine dining restaurant but the seating is more family oriented with a semi-communal arrangement of chairs in the center of a great wooden room overlooking the beach. As the maitre d’ sits you down, you’re overwhelmed by the number of waiters walking around with large well carved hunks of beef stuck through swords! This restaurant is a culinary experience unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
Off in the corner is a fully stocked buffet of alternative food items such as seared ahi tuna, yellow tail sushi, exotic salads, nuts, pickled items, antipastos, aged cheeses and a whole host of others.
Once you sit back at your table, a platoon of waiters comes bearing all manner and variety of meats (steak cuts, roast cuts, filet mignon, chicken breast, chicken hearts, sausage of diverse kinds, and much more) which they slice to perfection on your plate. The waiters will continually supply you with all the delicious meat you can eat; not a moment will go by that you are waiting for more juicy meat to enjoy. It’s almost as though the army of waiters are paid extra to return to the kitchen with empty swords.
It’s quite difficult to put into words and accurately portray the undeniably spectacular taste of the juicy, tender, cuts of beef that are served. Perfection comes to mind. When all the proper ingredients of the marinated beef come together, coupled with a perfect temperature and then to see it being sliced directly onto your plate somehow it just becomes an extraordinary experience. The flavor invigorates your senses, bite after bite of churrascaria goodness.
Want to take it up a notch and try something truly unique? Ask any of the waiters to bring your some of the seasoned lamb, buffalo or ostrich meat!
For the record, I tried the seared ahi tuna, lamb, every kind of beef they brought, even the ostrich. Normal price is $75 Reals ($40 USD); for my pallet and the experience, it was worth tenfold that. I really can’t remember a time when I walked away from a restaurant so fully satisfied.

Without seeing the pictures you took while at the beach (that you haven’t shared) I guess I’d choose this steak house as my first destination there. It sure looks good.
