Iguazu Falls – Day 1 – Brazilian Side
My last stop in Brazil is already here. I landed last night via TAM airlines and decided to stay at a nice 4 star hotel for my final memories of Brazil. I took a 5 minute cab ride to the San Martin, mind you, where I have NO reservations and find out they only have 3 rooms left available! I negotiated an amazing deal for 4 nights at $250Reals/night ($135 USD) for their nicest room of 4 choices (a well appointed junior suite). I negotiated this price down from their posted rate of $420/night and I got them to throw in Breakfast (it already came with this) PLUS Dinner buffets for me! The room is killer and I’m less than a 5 mintute walk to the national park!
Up and at ’em this morning I got over to the falls after a short but brisk walk. Iguazu Falls currently has the greatest average annual flow of any waterfall in the world and seeing it first hand is wild. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Maybe a video is worth ten thosand? In person it’s easily worth a million.
One funny thing I saw today was this tour bus. So many possible meanings, so much comedy. I wonder if this guy smiled everytime he boarded the ASS turismo bus today? I know I would have been cracking up inside everytime I stepped aboard.
I walked the park TWICE today and took 400+ photos. Lucky for you I distilled them down to 36 great ones. Tomorrow I’m hoping to get even better shots, as today the mist in the air was quite apparent in some of the pics.

On the walk back to my hotel I stopped by a stand to buy a drink when I noticed packs of “Fox” cigarettes for sale. When I asked how much the guy said, “$2 Reals ($1 USD) so of course I had to buy them. Most tourists were walking or riding back to their hotel with nice new shiny souveneirs, Iguaza shirts, hats, etc. but not me. Instead, I choose to spring for a pack of smokes so I could bring you this awesome photo. If you’re wondering how they taste, they’re aweful. Kids, don’t smoke. It’s bad. Even if it does say Fox on the pack.
