A Day Sightseeing in Chiang Mai

Written By: FOXY on January 28, 2010 2 Comments

I woke up early today and had an awesome american style buffet at the Raming Lodge Hotel, where I’m staying.  This hotel is fantastic with a perfect location for night activities.  I’m staying in a deluxe room with a plush King size bed, daily fresh fruit in my room and unlimited minibar items, all for 1300 Baht/night ($39 USD) !

After breakfast I headed for Pop motorcycle rental.  I could have choosen a 200 Baht/day ($6 USD) small 125cc motorcycle but I instead went for a brand new Kawasaki 250 KXF dirtbike!  I ended up paying 700 Baht/day ($21/day) which isn’t too bad but certainly not my greatest bargain.  Nevertheless, the bike kicks butt and I jumped on it and had it blasting on the Thai’s version of a freeway at over 110 KMH on my second ride.

Next up was a 15KM ride to the Budhist temple of Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep.  The rode to Doi Suthep is an awesome canyon carving mountainous climb.  I was flying through the twists and turns and my only sadness was that I had no way to record the exhilirating ride to video.   Doi Suthep was beautiful, but I’ll let the pictures do it justice.

From there I stopped off at a waterfall and nearly killed myself as I slipped from the highest point on the waterfall and slid 5 feet towards the edge of a 30 foot drop with pure rock at the bottom!  I was just barely able to slow myself down in time and got a little banged up, wet and only slightly muddy in the process.  Oops.

Check out the pictures of my day Chiang Mai Sightseeing.

Also, please do leave me a comment on the photos. I’ve tried some different photoshop editing tricks and I want find out if you like them or not.   Thanks!

Hey Bro, looks like you’re having a great time, as always. And the photos look perfect. Keep living the dream, I’ll be holding down business in SA for the next month (starting next week). Hope our paths cross soon. Cheers! SM
