Back to the Action in Angeles City!
After Palawan, I flew to Cebu and spent a fantastic week with Jenny at the Cebu Marriott. We spent some relaxing time at the Ayala mall, ate some tasty food and watched some good movies. Then we said our goodbyes and I took off for Angeles City, to meet with my friend Brett.
On the short one and a half hour flight over I was surprised to overhear two guys discussing search engine optimization. As my ears perked up I couldn’t help but to join in their rare SEO “techie” conversation. We discussed each of our respective internet businesses and ended up befriending each other in the process.
After deplaning and checking out hotel options I settled on the centrally located Apartel Royale. It’s a fairly nice hotel with a price tag of 1490 pesos ($33 USD) a night and my new friend Tony decided to get a room there as well.
I’m a huge fan of stocking up my micro-fridge when I know I’ll be staying in a hotel for a while and I really outdid myself this time. I stuffed it full of Gatorades, Milo, orange juices, flavored waters and last but not least, the beer. I despise Filipino beers, so German hefeweizen (wheat beer), Oettinger, is my brew of choice.
My three new friends spent many fun days and nights in Angeles discussing business and enjoying the entertainment at night. Our routine usually included a meal together, some internet marketing discussions and then a night of bar hopping. After a week of fun, Tony had to head home to Australia.
Now, with Tony gone and still waiting for my buddy Brett to arrive from Vietnam, the responsibility to keep the party going fell squarely upon Chris and I. It was a hard task but I’d say we hit at least 90% of the 65+ bars in Angeles City.
We also enjoyed some fantastic meals at Zarok’s restaurant, Black Angus Steak House (at Royal Amsterdam Hotel) and fresh buko (coconut) juice at the mall. Dining in Angeles can be quite inexpensive coupled with some tasty cuisine. Other dining recommendations include the Wood Bell (Japanese/Korean food) and Bunny Burger for a super satisfying Australian hamburger.
